BWS, Inc. Attends 2015 Waste Expo

At the beginning of June, the BWS team attended the 2015 Waste Expo in Las Vegas, NV. The Waste Expo was sponsored in part by the National Waste and Recycling Association that BWS, Inc. has recently joined.
This four-day event was packed with great information, exciting exhibits and thought-provoking discussions. Vendors from all over the world were exhibiting new technologies to help companies like BWS find better ways to assist our clients. We got a chance to sit in on some interesting sessions and have learned a lot about the modern state of the waste and recycling industry and its ever-changing regulations.
Among other topics on the agenda, here are a few that caught our attention:
- Financial drivers that are changing the waste and recycling industry.
- Fleet and equipment safety and data collection (We’ve recently implemented DriveCam devices on our vehicles—read more about it here).
- Updates to federal and state regulations.
- Zero waste strategies, policies and programs.
Speaking of updates to the federal and state regulations, new pharmaceutical waste regulations are being put in place to protect our environment. The EPA is planning to establish new standards for the management and disposal of pharmaceutical hazardous waste (RCRA-hazardous waste) generated by healthcare facilities. Specifically, EPA will be addressing the notification and tracking requirements for transportation of these wastes from the generator to the disposal facility. This topic was discussed at the Waste Expo, and BWS will be monitoring it closely to let you know right away who is and in what way they are affected by these changes.
The Waste Expo gave us a great opportunity to attend seminars and training sessions to better our knowledge of the ever-changing regulations in our industry. Meeting other companies and friends was also a big bonus. We’ll definitely be returning next year for the Waste Expo 2016.
